ORTHOKERATOLOGY FOR ADULTS

IMPROVED VISION WHILE YOU SLEEP

If you have secretly wished you could stop wearing glasses or contact lenses without the need for eye surgery, orthokeratology may be the answer for you.

Athletes needing vision correction have traditionally resorted to bulky eyewear designed to withstand contact or they have had to withstand the risks of losing a contact or worse, getting dirt or dust thrown at their eyes while wearing a contact.

Aquatic athletes have had to settle for leaving their contacts in the locker room or getting special googles that still leave them with fuzzy vision.

Imagine instead if you could wear a special pair of contacts while you sleep so that you wouldn't need glasses or contacts while you are awake?

This is a reality for many patients.

HOW DOES ORTHOKERATOLOGY WORK?

Chances are you have seen children wear retainers at night to hold their teeth in place after they have had braces.  The concept of orthokeratology is similar.

Specially designed contact lenses will gently shape the front of your eyes (the cornea) while you are sleeping.   The process is painless and unnoticeable for most patients.

The benefit is when you wake up, you no longer have to reach for your glasses or put in contact lenses to see clearly.  Instead, you remove the orthokeratology lenses and go about your day, whether that's school, work or play.

WHO CAN USE ORTHOKERATOLOGY?

Orthokeratology can help a large number of people who currently depend on glasses or contact lenses.

Here's a list of some of the most common factors used to evaluate if orthokeratology is an option for you:

  • Are you farsighted, nearsighted or do you have astigmatism?
  • Does your prescription for vision correction fall between +2.00 and -6.00 diopters with no more that -1.75 diopters for astigmatism?
  • Previous attempts to wear contacts didn't work due to comfort, allergies, dryness or other factors.
  • Your work or activities require excellent vision without glasses or contacts.  This could apply to pilots, first responders, athletes, etc.
  • You don't want to be limited by glasses or contacts during sports, water based activities like scuba or rafting, other outdoor, or strenuous activities.
If orthokeratology is an option you would like to consider, you can be confident that our doctors have the expertise to help you decide if orthokeratology is right for you. Call us today to schedule an appointment at 513-779-3937.
