DR. MICHAEL LYONS

A PASSION FOR DELIVERING EXCEPTIONAL EYE CARE

We pride ourselves on always being on the frontline of new technological developments and bringing those technologies to our patients.
Dr. Michael Lyons, founder and owner of Focal Pointe Eye Care, received his undergraduate education at Ohio University, obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in 1997 in biology with a minor in art. 

He went on to study optometry at The Ohio State University College of Optometry, earning his Doctoral Degree in 2001. 

Following his graduation, he was accepted into the Ocular Disease Residency program at Cincinnati Eye Institute. From there, Dr. Lyons joined the Cincinnati Eye Institute’s Corneal, Refractive, and Uveitis Clinic.

After 7 years of service at the Cincinnati Eye Institute, Dr. Lyons made the decision to expand his role in eye and vision care by opening Focal Pointe Eye Care, a modern, full-service optometric clinic built with state-of-the-art equipment and an eyewear boutique. His years of experience helped him design a facility that is welcoming to patients and their families.

DEDICATED TO CONTINUOUS LEARNING AND TEACHING

Dr. Lyons is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Ohio Optometric Association. 

He is certified by the National Board of Examiners in Optometry for the treatment and management of ocular disease. He also has special interests in low vision and contact lenses for therapeutic and cosmetic needs.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Lyons is also a full-time Volunteer Clinical Instructor in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Cincinnati and is the head of the University Contact Lens Service.  Ophthalmology residents receive hands-on training and education under his supervision at the Focal Pointe Eye Care clinic.
Dr. Lyons gets daily inspiration from his wonderful family, including his wife Liz and two children, Diegan and Eleanor, who were practically raised at the Focal Pointe office when it first opened.

LOW VISION SERVICES

Dr. Lyons has provided low vision services at the Cincinnati Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired from 2003 to 2015. He has a special interest in this field since his wife suffers from a permanent visual impairment due to juvenile macular degeneration, otherwise know as Stargardt’s disease. 


If you or a family member has impaired vision, we can help assist and direct you to the appropriate facility. The mission of the Cincinnati Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired is to offer blind and visually impaired people of Greater Cincinnati the opportunity to seek independence.
