Dr. Shana Brafman joined Focal Pointe Eye Care in July 2016. She and Dr. Lyons have been colleagues since 2014 when she joined the Cornea, Cataract, and Uveitis team of CEI where he was already working. Both doctors are also Volunteer Instructors at the University of Cincinnati, providing education for Ophthalmology Residents.
After graduating with honors from Ohio University, Dr. Brafman completed a post baccalaureate pre-medical degree at Northwestern University. She is a Cum Laude graduate of the Illinois College of Optometry and completed a post-doctoral residency in Contact Lens Specialty Services and Anterior Segment Disease at the Illinois Eye Institute of the Illinois College of Optometry. During her residency, Dr. Brafman gained extensive experience and expertise in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of patients with complex diseases of the cornea and anterior segment of the eye and those requiring specialized contact lens treatments for such conditions as keratoconus, post-surgical complications, ocular trauma, and congenital eye anomalies.
Additionally, she has provided specialized eye care in such respected institutions as the University of Chicago Department of Ophthalmology and the Illinois Eye Institute Center for Advanced Eye Care. Dr. Brafman was on faculty at the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago until moving to Cincinnati. She has served as a committee chairperson for the Contact Lens and Cornea Section of the American Optometric Association. Her academic pursuits include lecturing and research in areas relating to contact lenses and management of cornea and anterior segment eye disease.
Dr. Brafman provides vision exams and evaluation of eye conditions such as dry eye, keratoconus, cataracts, glaucoma, and macular degeneration. Her experience with challenging eye conditions and her training in specialty contact lenses make her an invaluable addition to Focal Pointe Eye Care.
A native Cincinnatian, Dr. Brafman is a graduate of Wyoming High School. After practicing optometry in Chicago for seven years, she moved back home to be closer to family, including her father and fellow optometrist, Dr. Steven Hecht. When not involved with her profession, Dr. Brafman enjoys spending time with her husband and two children.
